"In a relatively short period of time Ops A La Carte was able to help us identify our strengths and weaknesses on product quality in the field and in the areas of reliability, test and manufacturing engineering. They also helped us develop a very comprehensive manufacturing engineering strategy based upon our available resources."

Reliability Performance Reporting

DEFINITION
Reliability Performance Reporting is a method of reporting back how we are doing against our plan. In this report, we capture
how we are doing against our goals and against our schedule to meet our goals.
how well we are integrating each tool together.
what modifications we may need to make to our plan.

In the report, we can also add information on specific issues, progress on failure analyses, and paretos and trend charts.

SITUATION
Once a product is released into production, there is a great deal of information that can be collected to measure a product's performance. A Reliability Performance Report is the perfect vehicle for doing this.

OBJECTIVE
Reliability performance results during testing and in the field can be compared with the Reliability Program and Integration Plan, and initial analytical assessments can be made to determine how we are performing against our goals.

VALUE TO YOUR ORGANIZATION
Collecting this information on a regular basis and producing a report to Upper Management is an effective method to help inform the proper people of performance, trends, issues, and resolutions.

RELIABILITY INTEGRATION
An example of Reliability Integration during the Reliability Performance Reporting Setup is as follows:

The Reliability Performance Report is a regular status check against the goals set in the Reliability Program and Integration Plan
Reliability performance reporting integrates with the Reliability Program and Integration Plan and all of the reliability activities called out. The Plan specifies Reliability Goals and describes reliability activities used to achieve those goals. The Reliability Performance Report is the tool used to measure the goals and report the effectiveness of each of these reliability activities. This feedback mechanism will help compare against goals on this project, and also can help more accurately set goals on future projects.

METHODOLOGY
Determine How Often to Report
Reliability Performance Reports should be developed about once per month during the testing and pilot build and can then drop down to once per quarter after the processes have stabilized.

Develop Report
Reliability Performance Reports consist of the following sections:

Management Summary
Body of Report
Outline which parameters to monitor
Identify which reliability tools will be providing the results
Compare to goals
Summarize how you are doing against your goals
Describe changes taking place to align closer with your goals
Backup Data/Analysis

CASE STUDIES/OPTIONS
The following case studies and options provide example approaches. We shall tailor our approach to meet your specific situation.

1) Developing Your First Reliability Performance Report
A Consumer Electronics company was not collecting any field data and was not running any type of reporting of information. However, increasing customer complaints was pressuring them to do so. We helped them set up a method of tracking their data and developed an easy method of acquiring simple statistics and reporting these statistics in a clear and concise manner.

2) Integrating Your Reliability Performance Report with Your Data
A Computer manufacturer had a Reliability Performance Report but they were only monitoring and reporting on field data and were not tying it into the Reliability Program and Integration Plan. We helped them automate the gathering of other useful data from testing and production yields and showed them how to integrate it together.

3) Enhancing Your Reliability Performance Report for More Meaningful Actions
A Medical Device company had an established Reliability Performance Report and had an abundance of data but no one was paying any attention to the report, and after awhile, the reports merely served as a box to check. We reviewed the way they presented their data and found that the Management Summary was weak and had no take-aways or concrete actions. We helped them revamp this section to get management to start paying attention to the report and to help drive corrective actions.
